Yeah, writing an anti — interventionist view from a different coloured part of the political spectrum, but always totally opposed to military intervention in any nation, I have regularly been accused of being a Putin fan, or an Assad fan. It makes no sense but when this is pointed out to the MIC fans, they just insist that anybody who opposed the intervention in Libya, Syria, the sponsorship of the Ukranian coup, the war on Yemen and all the rest is an enemy of all that is good and decent.
And when asked do they then approve of Yazidi and Druze women being ritually gang raped or taken as sex slaves by ISIS fighters in Syria and Iraq, or the bombing of hospitals, water supplies and other vital infrastructure or the siege of the only port in Yemen through which humanitarian aid was reaching the starving and disease strickem millions, all we get is “yeah but … yeah but … yeah but …Assad’s a monster and Putin’s a tyrant and the Yemenis are supported by Iran,” as if that makes the atrocities of ISIS, the destruction of Libya or the genocide in Yemen OK.
It’s only fear of Russian and Chinese responses that has stopped direct intervention in Ukraine, Syria, Yemen and probably Iran. So from the anti war perspective, they can’t be all bad.
