Truth is Venezuela has been on the State Department’s “ready for regime change list” ever since Chavez stood up to the Bush administration. The goodish news is that China, Russia and a bunch more nations have closed ranks around their ally Maduro and warned Washington, “Hands off Venezuela.
So could Washington’s regime change plan for Venezuela go down the same pan as the effort to oust Syria’s Assad regime disguised as a humanitarian intervention to stop Assad slaughtering the people who were slaughtering Syriac Christian, Jewish, Yazidi and Druze minorities in Syria?
Or should we send a message to our leaders to say, “If Syria wants Assad’s tyranny in preference to the tyranny of ISIS; if Venezuela wants to vote for Maduro and socialism rather than a government of corrupt, Washington — friendly gangsters, that’s their business. The developed nations should do business with them without interfering in their political arrangements.
Personally, I can’t work out what is humanitarian about intervention to stop tyrants who at least respect the minorities in their nation from murdering barbarians this assisting the barbarians in carrying out their genocidal plans by freeing them to carry on murdering people. Yes I know that is confusing, I worded it that way to illustrate how hard it is to know who we are supporting in a conflict between bad guys and even badder guys.
