There is a definite political imbalance here, and it is one of the things that keeps me committing more time to the site. I quite like some of the left wing writers, and although I often get called right wing, I have never voted conservative in my life (and I’m certainly not a Republican, I’m not a fan of our constitutional monarchy but elected heads of state are no better,). In fact recently I usually get accused of being ‘a right wing Putin whore’ for my opposition to military intervention by the NATO allies in middle eastern problems that we do not understand. At the same time, while I don’t see ‘liberals’ and ‘progressives’ supporting Trump’s actions on Syria, they supported the same actions based on the same knee jerk reactions to the same kind of false flag events when Obama was in The White House. How strange that the left have become war hawks alongside the Bush era neocons, while classical liberals like myself get called right wing for adhering to our principle of being anti — war and non interventionist.
I digress however, the terms right and left have little meaning now, in my newsfeed it seems to come down to politically correct Cultural Marxist propaganda versus occasional outbreaks of common sense.
The problem recurs whenever content is selected by what is risibly referred to as Artificial Intelligence or AI, simply because the people who program the systems let their prejudices influence their programming, a common fault with nerds who by definition are unable to conceive that anybody might think differently to them.
So what does a site owner do? I would prefer it if I could select categories that interest me (a selection that might vary from day to day) and then refine my choices by, for example, most recent, most revevant, most popular.
With regard to the ‘featured’ content and premium content, I must confess to skipping past the barrier at times (I worked 25 years in IT), but I’m usually disappointed at what I find there so it does not inspire me to become a subscriber. The only way to assure the quality of content is unfortunately by introducing some form of moderation, maybe ask contributors to submit a number of articles, five, eight, whatever, to show they are caapble of self editing before they are allowed to freely post behind the paywall. Just a thought.
