The point here Caitlin is that double standards are acceptable in these circumstances because Republicans are evil and Democrats are GOOD and genetically incapable of wrongdoing, especially if they are female, gay or ethnic minority.
I lost all patience with ‘liberals’ in the USA back in 2009. A vote in California had gone against same sex marriage and the ‘rights’ lobby had gone to the courts and, with a known gay activist judge presiding, (because liberals are GOOD and genetically incapable of bias, so no conflict of interest, right?) the democratically expressed will of the majority had been overturned.
I’m equivocal on same sex marriage (or a homophobic right — wing extremist if you are a liberal,) so my attitude is civil weddings are OK but for the religious bit, if people feel a need for it, the decision should be left with the churches. So when a heated discussion broke out on a web forum I contributed to my contribution referred only to the abuse of democracy if interest groups can prompt the courts to intervene and overturn decisions a political faction or interest group don’t like.
OK, you don’t need me to tell you what happened in the comment thread. But a couple of people were kind enough to explain to me that democracy is not perfect (really? I was shocked.) Therefore when in a popular vote the majority make the wrong decision “the government must step in and do the right thing.”
This is what has happened in 2016. Donald Trump was the evil candidate because he is rich, powerful and said “pussy” once. Hillary Clinton is GOOD because she supports the RIGHT causes, LGBT rights, women’s rights, cultural equality for Muslims, and the eradication of white malesXXX white privilege. And she has breasts (allegedly) so obviously the democratically expressed will of the people was wrong and the lovely liberal Democrats must find a way to make the government overturn the crooked election and “do the right thing.”

Yes, you are more likely to get intelligent answers when talking to a wall.
