The author seems to be rather confused about what is meant by experience and what counts as as a personal experience. We might say of somebody “He has ten years experience as a heart surgeon,” or “she has twenty years experience as a music teacher.” That is experience.
If, however, I tell you that I have driven a 4 x 4 to the top of a volcano and had a lunch that was cooked by the heat from one of the vents (El Diablo restaurant, Timanfaya, Lanzarote,), that is a personal experience and while it might make an interesting anecdote it does not establish me as an expert on either volcanos or restaurants. I’m pretty good at driving 4x4s off road however.

So while we can safely dismiss personal experiences as an indicator of expertise, experience, real experience, should always be respected over impressive sounding qualifications in pseudo — sciences.
