That’s an amazing comment Christopher, thanks — though I have to admit I rather skimmed through the latter part having been excited by a point you made in an early paragraph.
Your comment about the increased survival chances of every human due to advances in social conditions and the sciences struck me as very close to points I have made in response to people blethering about abolishing disease and extending the human life span, namely that we are at risk of neutering the evolutionary principle of natural selection. Survival of the fittest makes the species stronger and more capable of dealing with environmental challenges, survival of the weakest sets us up for catastrophe when our descendants meet some future evolutionary bottleneck.
