Kudos to Tulsi Gabbard for speaking her mind, but I’m afraid Cailin, you are being blinded by narrative here. It was the Obama administration that kicked off the current contratemps with Russia, the CIA sponsored coup in Ukraine took place in 2014, the bombing of Libya to effect regime change (which pissed off Russia and China because they withheld their veto on a UN resolution having been told the action was humanitarian,) happened in 2011 and US action in Syria began in 2014 when Obama launched air strikes ostensibly on ISIS by shitting more targets in territory controlled by Assad. US ground troops arrived in Syria in 2015.
Obama actually said several times that his priority in Syria was the removal of the Assad regime rather than the defeat of his beloved, head — amputating, sex — slave — taking ‘moderate rebels. It was well known on Washington that assad’s Syria is a strategically important ally of Russia and some of the wiser senior military personnel had advised against confrontation with Russia, which, should it turn into a serious shooting match would certainly bring in China.

It’s true to say that Trump has done nothing to ease the situation and if he has seriously tried to take on the deep state he has failed ignominiously, but if we must give credit where it is due, we must also lay blame where it is due. I don’t think Trump wants conflict with Russia, I don’t think Obama wanted it either, however, what some of us learned long ago is that in nations with some form of democracy, elected presidents and prime ministers do not actually lead the government.

Trump is not ramping up tensions between the US /NATO and Russia / China because he wants it, any more than Obama wanted it, both have been steered into it by the dark forces of corporatism, the Davosocracy as some are calling them.
