I’m a staight, white man and while I’ve never seen Vertigo. I don’t like Hitchcock films in general, though Psycho is redeemed by by a few iconic scenes and some comically heavy handed direction. Some of his older stuff may not have been bad but in the case of two, the Daphne Du Maurier stories Rebecca and Jamaica Inn, it would have been hard to ruin them totally, even a director as inept as Edward D Wood might have been able to turn out a decent end product. (The ‘so-bad-its-good’ cachet has worn off his Plan 9 From Outer Space, the masterpiece dubbed “the worst movie ever made” now but try to catch his cross dressing epic Look Back In Angora)
Having said that, I was never a fan of psychological thrillers (I didn’t know all straight white males had to be,) Monty Python’s Life of Brian, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Death Becomes Her or Four Weddings and a Funeral are more to my taste

Opted for comfortable retirement before I was fifty due to health problems and burn out. Now spend my time writing and goofing around. Home: northern England..
