I was great at pub quizzes when youngers (I'm still good at quizzes, I just don't go to the pub much any more,) and I've talked to many people about why some of us can instantly recall trivia and others, though well educated and in good jobs, cannot do so with the same facilitity.

It certainly has little to do with intelligence although I have noted a common trait is that good quizzers read a lot.

But then winning a quiz is very different to recalling what happened on years ago holiday. Although none of us in the family will ever forget the time my wife's niece Susan clobbered her husband with a five pound back of potatoes because he arrives late for Christmas dinner and stupidly drunk.
