I think you captured the nature of America’s current political divide brilliantly. There are of course older divides which are much more complex. I’m not a US voter (in fact last year, for the first time since I reached voting age I became a non voter in Britain because none of the available choices deserved my vote,) but in 2016 I did fear a Clinton victory more than a Trump or Sanders victory. hillary was the military / industrial complex candidate and war is great for their business, war would be bad for Trump’s business and Bernie has, from what I read, always been in the business of opposing war.
Economically Bernie would have been a disastrous president, but then so would Hillary, in fact if she had been elected it’s unlikely there would be any economy after her wars. Trump ought to be the one who can start to turn the economy round, but I doubt even his monstrous ego is a big enough obstacle to stop the deep states charge to authoritarianism.
