Would the English language have a literary canon had Chaucer, Shakespeare, Swift, Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Thomas Hardy, H G Wells, George Orwell, John Fowles and Val McDermid or Nathaniel Hawthorn, Mark Twain, Herman Melville, Ursula McGuin, John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway and Harper Lee had been required to pander to the censorious, moralistic attitudes of the woke brigade.

Writers should always write from their own observations, feelings and experience, start tyring to comply wuth the labyrinthine rules of politically correct thinking and their output will be banal and anodyne.
