I’m almost obsessive about preserving the right to free speech; without that there can be no democracy because people can never be properly informed about what they are being asked to vote for.
There have to be limits of course, the ones we’ve had in Britain before these stupid ‘hate speech’ laws were introduced were quite straight forward: You couldn’t say things like “Let’s kill all politicians and burn all government offfices,” or “People with ginger hair are the spawn of satan, they must be excluded from society.” But you could say: “The doctrines of the (insert name) church / sect / cult are idiotic and dangerous.”
Now, after 60 years of screaming that discrimination is always wrong, we have the left saying “Discrimination is OK so long as it is discromination we approve of.”
Thus we have people publishing articles on Medium and other platforms calling for all heterosexual, white, ‘ cis-genderd’ males to be exterminated or preachers calling on their followers to “Kil the infidel,” and that is not hate speech. Say something like, “time to get the queers back in the closet,” or “Islam is a cruel and inhuman creed,” and you’ll be in big trouble.
