“ Have you ever noticed how unambiguous and unequivocal the pundits and reporters on the corporate news media are? How confident and assertive their voices are?”

Absolutely, but this is a learned trick, TV news talking heads are really actors, its a bit more difficult when you’re out in the real word and just busking it off the top of your head. Because of course, when someone throws a shovelful of brown, smelly stuff that is pointing in your direction, somehow you have to emerge from that shitstorm smelling of roses. In common with Lady Macbeth, ‘All the perfumes of Arabia’ will not sweeten the stink that clings to you.
But if you can act as if you smell of roses, people will believe you.
Because they want to believe. The want to feel secure in the knowledge that someone up front knows what they’re doing, even if, as you say, nobody ever really does.
Staying calm and exuding an air of infallibility is a learned trick too, it just takes longer to learn. But if you understand any decision you make will never be entirely right or entirely wrong and that the important thing is to make the decision and see it through, then you’ll probably come out smelling not too bad.

Wheras sooner or later everybody realises that the talking heads are just faking it.
