Biggest laugh of 2016 for me was Nate Silver’s prediction that a Hillary victory was a gazillion per cent likely proving so wrong.
During the campaign I had commented on the nonsensical nature of Silver’s methods of calculating probabilities (I have a qualification in statistics and Grandad was a bookie,) only to be told I dodn’t know what I was talking about, Nate Silver was using (say it in reverential tones,) ‘science’.

As I said I have a qualification in statistics and I’ll let you into a secret although I suspect many people will have guessed: It is more akin to the dark arts than any traditional scientific discipline.
